Virgin Islands Supreme Court Adopts LexisNexis
Time Matters Software for Case Management
WILMINGTON, NC, June 1, 2012 – Michael Matters, Inc., a provider of online and onsite support for billing, document and practice management software, announced today the Virgin Islands Supreme Court completed the implementation of a new case management system for the Office of Disciplinary Counsel. This project is the result of the Court’s pursuit of its strategic plan, which includes initiatives for improving operational transparency, enhancing technology and access to records, and strengthening communication and accountability to the public.
Delphine Farr Janey, Disciplinary Counsel, worked with the consulting firm Michael Matters, Inc. to install, customize and train her office on this new system that leverages LexisNexisÒ Time MattersÒ, a flexible practice management application for law firms and legal departments.
“Time Matters is an excellent tool for law firms and legal departments and we believe the custom implementation we developed for the Virgin Islands Supreme Court will help them achieve the goals of their strategic plan,” said David Michael, lead consultant with Michael Matters, Inc.
The new
system allows Disciplinary Counsel to categorize all complaints according the
ABA Model Rules for Professional Conduct, to calculate the age of all pending
matters, and to track the source of complaints.
In this way, meaningful statistics can be developed, and “problem areas”
can be identified.
“Perhaps the best news”, stated Attorney Janey,
“is that we were able to import the existing cases and data. That way, the office did not lose ground
during the implementation period.”
“We also imported the Bars list of active attorneys, providing the agency with a database of valid contact information for attorneys practicing here on the Islands,” Michael added.
